INVITATION
Nineteen years ago, the First International Rose
Symposium was held in Israel in 1985. Ten years later in 1995, the Second
International Rose Symposium was held in France and, in 2000, the Third
International Rose Symposium was held again in Israel. We are now pleased to
invite you to attend the Fourth International Rose Symposium to be held from
18 to 22 September
2005 in Santa Barbara, California USA.
Progress in many fields of rose research continues all over the
world so that it is time once again to gather and share research results and
ideas with our colleagues. From breeding and genetics to economics and
marketing, from propagation and production techniques to postharvest
practices and physiology, from biotechnology and crop modeling to disease
and pest resistance and management, all aspects of rose research are
expected to be represented at the symposium. Information on cut,
garden, and pot roses will be included. Oral and Poster
presentation sessions are planned in an intimate setting with plenty of time
for interaction with colleagues, old and new. A mid-week professional tour
and a post-symposium tour will afford unique opportunities to see cut,
garden, and pot rose production sites along with postharvest handling
facilities and a tour of the research projects and facilities at the
University of California at Davis.
The venue for the symposium is located in the central coast area of
California USA that is known to many for its picturesque beauty and warm
hospitality. Our desire is that the pleasant atmosphere will stimulate the
creativity and interaction that is so important to the business of rose
research. In addition, there are many sightseeing opportunities for
accompanying persons and for those who wish to spend time before or after
the symposium. We are looking forward to welcoming you to Santa Barbara in
September 2005.
